In her first solo museum exhibition The Rose Garden, artist John Jarboe explores the power of cabaret, seeking new expressions of agency through narrative surprise, deep vulnerability, and ultimate catharsis. The immersive installation shares the true story of the artist’s consumed twin Rose, treating viewers to a multisensory feast of short films, original music, and domestic objects within a winding maze of memories and provocations made by and for trans and queer communities. Featuring an exclusive vinyl and companion booklet, Rose: You Are Who You Eat serves as a musical shrine, capturing the surreal experience of Jarboe’s gender journey and inviting listeners to nestle in, chew on their own gender, and savor its morsels.
Published by the Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia. Single LP with gatefold jacket and booklet, 28 pages. 12 x 12 in.
